Risk Management:
Infection Control

Patient Safety & Risk Management Tools
New addition to the Physician Office Practice Toolkit

The goal of infection control is to prevent the transmission of infections to patients, visitors, and staff. Most disease outbreaks reported throughout the country that occur within the ambulatory care setting are associated with non-adherence to recommended infection prevention and control procedures. Since most patient encounters are on an ambulatory basis, you and your staff have the greatest opportunity to decrease the transmission of infections.

The increased incidence of healthcare-acquired infections, multi-drug resistant organisms, and epidemics resulting in patient harm is a focus of healthcare providers, regulators, attorneys, and the media. To assist in your prevention of healthcare-acquired infections, Princeton Insurance has added infection control tools to the Physician Office Practice Toolkit’s Environment of Care Safety Manual. The tools can be customized to be in compliance with regulatory requirements for your particular scope of practice. They include:

ü      An Infection Control Self-Assessment

ü      Additional links within the “Helpful Links” section of the Environment of Care Safety Manual (see side bar re: NJLINCS.net & NJflupandemic.gov).

ü      A sample Infection Control Policy & Procedure

These tools may be used in conjunction with your existing CDC, OSHA, and/or applicable Department of Health policies.  Always consult the actual laws, regulations or guidelines for exact requirements.

To view the tools, insureds may log in to the physician secure site at PrincetonInsurance.com and open the Physician Office Practice Toolkit. From the index, select the Environment of Care section that contains links to various components of the toolkit. To request a hard copy, call the Risk Resource Line at 1-866-Rx 4 Risk (794-7475).
